SPP Fire Safety pump-sets have been specified for the latest addition to the ground-breaking Marina Bay development in Singapore.
Asia Square is a twin-tower mixed-use development that will comprise 190,000 m2 of grade A office space, a 280-room five-star hotel and 5,600 m2 of retail space overlooking 'The Cube' – an open public area used for networking or relaxing which hosts regular exhibitions and performances.
Tower 1, which features 43 floors, was completed and opened on 8 November 2011. Tower 2 is currently under construction and will be completed by 2013 – this will feature 46 floors, with the hotel occupying the 32nd to 46th floors. The retail space within Asia Square will be located on the 1st and 2nd floors in both towers.
Asia Square is one of the landmark buildings of the new downtown precincts of Marina Bay. Seamless connectivity is achieved via underground MRT stations, new road extension to the city and airport, and a water taxi service within Greater Marina Bay. The development will enjoy direct frontage onto the Central Linear Park, and will be connected to surrounding developments through an extensive network of underground pedestrian walkways and second story links.
The development will be served by a comprehensive system of underground tunnels which will house and distribute utility service lines, including power and telecommunication cables.
The design of Asia Square incorporates several environmental sustainable features. It will house the largest roof-top solar panel installation in Singapore and also the first bio-diesel generation plant in a commercial development in the Central Business District.
Asia Square has achieved both the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Core & Shell (LEED-CS) Gold precertification by the US Green Building Council and Green Mark Platinum Award by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore, making it one of Asia's greenest buildings.
With the environmental aspects of the development of such importance it was not surprising that SPP pumps were selected for use in the Fire Safety system. Building on a rich history of supplying high quality fire protection pumps and packages, SPP also has an on-going programme of technological improvement that recognises the benefits of superior hydraulic design and first class component quality in the development of reliable low life-cycle cost pumping systems. SPP is one of the select few pump manufacturers who have had their sprinkler and wet riser pumps subjected to the stringent performance and reliability tests of specialist fire approval laboratories worldwide, and has supplied a total of 16 fire protection end suction and split case pump sets for the development.
